Creative Soul Searching for Wellness Through Art

Jeanine Williams is a creative soul noted for the “size and character of her singing, and her thoughtful musicality.” (classicalottawa.com) She is currently based in Calgary, Alberta where she works in disability-arts education for Calgary Opera. Williams also runs her own therapeutic and recreation music and wellness studio, Medela YYC. Williams is studying for her Master of Counseling at City University, and on the side enjoys creative writing and performing in drag. After completing her Master of Music at the University of Ottawa, Ms. Williams has performed across Canada and even made a brief stint in Austria. Some of Williams’ operatic highlights include Dido (Dido and Aeneas ), Mother (Hansel und Gretel), and Mimi (La Boheme). Williams’ recent performances include the premiere of contemporary composer Rob Hunter’s Good Story at GRAND theatre, The Merry Widow with Calgary Opera, and a collaborative recital with Ethan Hill. Upcoming engagements include Good Story in Victoria, British Columbia, and a recital for Mother’s Day. Searching for wellness through art, Williams aspires to foster expressive spaces and assist in both the performance and creation of Canadian music today.
